Darkest Before Dawn

This week has been hard, after several deaths of people close to our family & friends ♥

I’ve felt the need to get away & clear my mind, but daily life beckons. It’s been a burden at times because my heart’s been screaming at me to make a change — to do something different or new to give myself the mental space needed to process everything. This time has been the culmination of a very restless period in my life starting last summer, as I’ve struggled with my purpose, place, & daily life.

It reminds me of one other time years ago, right before my hubby & I got together, when I felt desperate for something good to look forward to. During that hard place in my life — & again this week — the Lord spoke a phrase to me that gave me hope in a very hard place:

“It’s always darkest before dawn.”

Today I’m reminding myself & you, going through who-knows-what in your own life (maybe good, maybe hard), that we still have hope.

This life isn’t always easy. Duh 🙂 Some weeks it’s really hard, and other times it’s wonderful & full of joy! Many times it’s an interesting mixture of both sour & sweet. But when the scales tip out of balance unfavorably & we struggle under the weight of it, let’s remember that the Holy Spirit is saying dawn is near.

Dawn marks a new day for us, a new beginning, & biblically reminds us of God’s new mercies for us {so grateful for these}!

So if you’re in a ‘night season’ because you’ve made mistakes or simply because Life, tell your heart & mind with me today that morning is nigh. And if it feels like you can hardly go on another day, you’re closer than ever to breakthrough. That’s a sign that this day is nearly over & complete, and a new one is on the horizon 🌞

‘Arise’, my word for 2018, makes me think of the sunrise & how it chooses to makes its ascent every day out of a long, dark night. If the sun can have that daily perseverance, then so can you & I.

“Where shall I go from Your Spirit?
Or where shall I flee from Your presence?
If I ascend to heaven, You are there!
If I make my bed in Sheol, You are there!

If I take the wings of the morning
and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea,
even there Your hand shall lead me,
and Your right hand shall hold me.

If I say, ‘Surely the darkness shall cover me,
and the light about me be night,’
even the darkness is not dark to You;
the night is bright as the day,
for darkness is as light with You.”

Psalm 139
