Praying God’s Word Over Your Kids

Beth Moore once said that praying God’s Word back to Him is the most powerful way to pray. I agree. Simply agreeing with His Word and speaking it over our lives & families is “a more excellent way” to live. So let’s try it today!

While reading Luke 2 this morning, about Jesus’s miraculous birth & younger years, I was so blown away — by His story and by the words of BLESSING & prophetic declarations surrounding Him and building Him up from the start of His life on earth.

I encourage you to pray these over your own child(ren) and bless them with your words daily!! There are MANY other Scriptures to pray over our kids throughout the Bible, so don’t stop here. Speak God’s words over your kids as often as you think of them.

Scriptural Blessings to Pray for Your Children

Father, I thank You that You give peace to those with whom You are pleased on earth. I pray You would be pleased with {your child — mine is Abigail}, with myself & my husband. I pray we would bless You and give You glory. [verse 14]

Father God, we dedicate Abigail to You, just as Mary & Joseph dedicated Jesus. We speak life over her, that she would follow You all the days of her life & not step aside to the right or to the left. I pray she would know You from a very young age and that You would soften her heart and keep it tender towards you, to always obey Your Word and to desire to do Your will. Then You will be her God, and she dwell in the land You gave us. [verse 22-23 & Ezekiel 36]

Thank You, Lord, that Abigail, her brothers & sisters, and her father & I will be a light to reveal You to the nations — that we will glorify You & Your people! We bless her in Jesus’s name and declare that she will be a blessing to all that know her! [verse 32]

Father, we thank you that Abigail will be a joy to many others. We thank You that her presence on earth will bring more of You to people. [verse 34]

Thank You, Jesus, that Abigail will grow up healthy & strong — just as You Yourself did — and that Abigail will be filled with Your wisdom from an early age! We also pray and declare, Lord, that God’s favor will be on Abigail and all of her siblings and our whole family — that people will come to know You through her & all of us and that nothing will hinder You from working in and through us. [verse 40]

Thank You Lord Jesus that Abigail will listen to Your teachers and ask questions, like You did Jesus! Thank You that Your presence will be evident in her, her life, and the words she speaks, so that her answers and understanding will amaze those around her — even from a young age! [verses 46 & 47]

Thank You also, Father, that Abigail will be obedient to us as her parents, and that You will give us all wisdom and understanding to know how to raise her to know and love and respect You and Your ways. [verse 51]

Thank You Father God that Abigail will grow in wisdom and stature, according to Your design for her life, and in favor with You Lord God and with all the people. Your Word says that even a child is known by their deeds, so we pray that the fruit of Abigail’s life — her deeds — will be running over with Your goodness! [verse 52 & Proverbs 20]

We speak and pray all these things in the mighty name of Jesus. Help us, Lord, to speak Your Words of LIFE over Abigail — not words of death or destruction — and we come against any tongue that would seek to speak negatively over her, that their words would be silenced in Jesus’s mighty name. We thank You, God, that no weapon formed against Abigail shall prosper! [Isaiah 54]

May Abigail’s light shine before men that they may see her good deeds and praise You Father in heaven! [Matthew 5]

Thank You Lord for loving Abigail so much and for blessing her with Your favor and peace. Thank You for being her Good Shepherd, Father, and for anointing her head with oil so that her cup runs over!! Surely goodness and mercy shall follow her ALL the days of her life, and she will dwell in the house of You Lord forever. Amen. [Psalm 23]
