The Best is Yet to Come! [Michael Buble]

Ever felt like your life is so amazing and couldn’t get any better? Or on the contrary, that you’ve struggled for so long that you no longer envision happier days?

I have good news for both camps: The best is yet to come!

The beautiful truth is that we’ve no idea the blessings God’s planning for us – not just one heavenly day, but in the days and years to come. Right here on this planet.

We humans have a tendency to think we’ve already lived our best days, that we’ve seen “as good as it gets”, & that life never gets better (or worse).

While we can’t predict the future, one overwhelming truth in Scripture is that we haven’t seen one iota of God’s goodness yet!!

On a recent summer night as I prepared to move to our “new” place, a favorite song of mine came on. As trumpets blasted & Buble sang the familiar words, I sensed God speaking the words over me – “The best is yet to come.”

I’ve loved this song for years, but it holds new meaning for me today. I’m gaining a new hope, fresh perspective, & joyful anticipation for my future… much-needed in my life after various trials & at times wondering “Does it ever get better?” Such a beautiful anthem couldn’t have come at a better time.

One thing I love most about this song is WHY he promises his beloved better days. Mr. Buble hinges her future’s grand hopes on – get this – his nearness to her. On their blossoming love.

The singer likens her years before him to a “warm-up”, as if she’s been living a dream this whole time & the Real Thing is about to unfold in her life! Can you imagine Mr. Buble’s excitement as he unveils his greatest desire for his love TO her, finally, after so many years of waiting? His excitement may exceed her own.

He tells her, “You think you’ve seen the sun, but you ain’t seen it shine… Wait til you’re locked in my embrace. Wait til I draw you near!”

Their relationship is what will make her fly. Isn’t that a beautiful picture of the love of our Father?

God is saying to me (& you):

“Hold on dear. You ain’t seen nothing yet!”

Now give it a listen & imagine the Lord singing this over you.

“Out of the tree of life I just picked Me a plum
You came along and everything started to hum
Still it’s a real good bet, the best is yet to come

The best is yet to come, and babe won’t it be fine
You think you’ve seen the sun, but you ain’t seen it shine

Wait til the warm-up’s underway
Wait til our lips have met
Wait til you see that sunshine day
You ain’t seen nothin yet!

The best is yet to come, and babe won’t it be fine
The best is yet to come, come the day you’re Mine

The best is yet to come
Come the day you’re Mine
Oh come the day you’re Mine
I’m gonna teach you to fly
We’ve only tasted the wine
We’re gonna drain that cup dry

Wait til your charms are right for these arms to surround
You think you’ve flown before, but you ain’t left the ground

Wait til you’re locked in My embrace
Wait til I draw you near
Wait til you see that sunshine place
Ain’t nothin like it here

The best is yet to come, and babe won’t it be fine
The best is yet to come, come the day you’re Mine
Come the day you’re Mine
I’ve got plans for you babe
And baby you’re gonna fly!”
