Love’s Priceless Opportunity

“To love at all is to be vulnerable.”  -C.S. Lewis

Have you ever been with someone and it was s’posed to be incredible, sweet one-on-one time together?

Then… life happened… and you blew it?

That describes my weekend.

Someone came to visit me, and it was awesome.  But some things didn’t go according to plan.  Tonight as I look back on our time together, my heart seems to be in two pieces… like it can hardly contain itself.

Why?

Because God’s showing me that I missed my opportunity.  This special person has been so amazing to me since we’ve been close the last few years.  I am privileged and honored to even know him.  Yet I let my own selfishness and insecurities come between us.  And it hurt us both.

Now he’s gone… and I’m left wondering how did this happen?

Do we have any idea how precious time is with the people in our lives?  Do we realize the immense value of moments spent together… or only after they’re gone?

Months may pass before I see him again.  Yet he was here all weekend, and I had the opportunity to show him love.  And I didn’t.

God places people in our lives every day.  Don’t miss each opportunity to express His love…

To hug them.
To cook for them.
To do something for them they can’t do for themselves.
To return what was borrowed.
To pay for their meal.
To tell them how they’ve changed your life.
To really listen when they’re struggling (TV and PC not included).
To send them that card or pick up the phone.
To pray on their behalf.
To say those 3 powerful words.

That time can never be returned!  I wish I could rewind to three days ago and spoil him the way he did me all weekend.  I wish.  Instead, I took.

Lord, may my next chance be soon – and may I love freely!  May I seize the moments I have with others and treat them the way we so greatly need to be treated.

When you look back on your life, you’ll never regret words spoken or actions done in love.  You won’t experience the pain of regret when you consistently put others first.  You’ll soar through life blessing people and changing their lives.  Instead of taking from others, you’ll renew them and lift their spirits.  Best of all, you’ll always know the thrill of winning.

Because love never fails.
